How Should I Maintain My Diet During Pregnancy?

A woman finds her ultimate happiness when she gets ready to carry her baby through the period of 10 months to give birth to the next generation. Pregnancy is a period of a mixture of emotions and feelings, physical and mental. Well, maintaining a bloom of health during the pregnancy is of prime importance for the mother and the child. During pregnancy, the body needs extra vitamins, minerals and nutrients sufficient to meet the needs of the mother and the baby.

•  Dairy Products

All kinds of dairy products like milk, yogurt, being rich sources of calcium and protein are essential for the healthy physic of the baby.

•  Vegetables

Dark vegetables, leafy vegetables, sweet potatoes, green peas etc are an excellent source of vitamins such as folic acid, beta-carotene and vitamin C. They maintain the weight of the baby and controls the blood pressure. Also, vegetable oils are a source of zinc.

•  Cereals and pulses


High fibre content cereals and pulses are the sources of folic acid and iron. Your cereal bowl must have a perfect balance of carbohydrates and fibre with a low sugar content.

•  Meat/fish

A safe level of meat as a source of protein is required for pregnant women. Omega 3 fatty acids and a limited amount of fat are got through fish and meat.

•  Fruits

Fruits in considerable quantity are recommended during the pregnancy. The fibrous fruits help in preventing constipation. Variety of fruits counting up to 2 cups a day is required.

•  Water

A pregnant woman requires around 10 glasses of water on a daily basis in the form of water, milk, juices etc. Having sufficient quantity of water daily is required to avoid the possible dehydration and other urinary infections during pregnancy.

Lack of a healthy diet can bring in more complications during the delivery and congenital issues to the baby. Also, excess caffeine, alcohol, uncooked meat, etc must be avoided during pregnancy.
