- Medications are prescribed to the female partner for stimulating egg production. It is done in order to develop multiple eggs within the female body, as some eggs might not develop properly and not help in the fertilization process. Then tests are conducted to check the hormone levels and to examine ovaries.
- Eggs are extracted using a hollow needle that is passed through the pelvic cavity. The entire process is being watched by ultrasound imaging that helps in proper egg extraction process.
- The male is asked to produce samples of sperms that will be used for combining with the eggs in the laboratory dish.
- After extracting eggs and collecting sperm sample, both are mixed together and stored till the fertilization takes place. Constant monitoring is done to keep a check on the fertilization process, once fertilization occurs; the fertilized eggs are considered as embryos.
- Once embryo(s) is developed, it is transferred to the female body using a small tube. Usually, it is transferred post 4-5 days of fertilization.
